APRIL 2022

Dear Adventurer

The first swallows will shortly arrive outside our office, I've just watched my younger son play his first cricket match of the season and the sun is out!  Methinks summer is on its way - a good time to dust off that suitcase and book a holiday. The new Arcturus polar brochure is well into production and we have plenty of ideas for adventuring in warmer climes too. Follow me .... lets get planning a holiday to remember!

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HERCULE POIROT
2022 marks several milestone events in Egypt, from landmark discoveries to the opening of a long-anticipated museum. Have you been inspired by Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile remake which is now out?  I’ve long been a fan of Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Egypt has long held a special place in my heart – it was my very first recce trip when I started working in the travel industry. Make 2022 the year you visit!  The Grand Egyptian Museum near the pyramids at Giza aims to open in November and this year will be 100 years since Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb. The good news continues at pace for travel in South East Asia with the removal of Cambodia's Covid-19 restrictions for fully-vaccinated travellers. MOROCCO - CAMELS AND KASBAHS
With international flights to Morocco now resumed and only the need for a vaccination pass and a negative PCR test  before arrival, one of our favourite destinations is up and running again.

It only takes three hours to get there, yet Morocco really does offer the exoticsm and escape of a destination much further afield. Book a long weekend in a stunning ‘riad’ or traditional Moroccan hotel, camel trek in the Sahara or hike in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains only a short drive from Marrakech.   In summer head to the chic fishing village of Essaouira on the coast.  Read more>>

GENERAL NEWS AND UPDATES

The Trans Bhutan Trail has been restored. For hundreds of years, it was used by pilgrims, messengers, armies and traders. Until the 1960s, it was the only way to travel and communicate with others across the country. From Haa in the west to Trashigang in the east, the 400km trail spans the breadth of Bhutan. We recommend tackling just a few sections rather than the entire trail.  Scenery will be spectacular  - rural villages, snow-topped peaks and imposing Dzongs (tradional monasteries) scattered along the route.
If you are fully vaccinated - you can now add Australia back onto your wishlist. We' ve some great wilderness lodges and outback stations, Aborigine experiences and Barrier Reef Islands, with attendent top notch wines and culinary delights. We do the work and you supply vaccination certificate, visa and negative PCR test result.
The Black-necked Crane Festival is celebrated annually on 11 November at Gangtey Gonpa in Central Bhutan.

The Gangtey-Phobji valley is the largest winter habitat of Black-necked Cranes in Bhutan, with approximately 300 individuals visiting each year. Arrive by vehicle or on foot as part of a gentle three day trek. We can incorporate this festival into any of our itineraries.
